Apprenticeship information for parents

A parent’s guide to apprenticeships: from application to first day.

Your child is choosing a trade, and you want to know that the path leads somewhere. We understand that, and we want you to have the answers before your child decides: what apprentices earn, how we select, when training starts, and who you can talk to.

What does my child earn as an apprentice?

Pay follows the collective agreement and rises every year. From November 1, 2026, the minimum is €1,093.49 per month in year one, €1,322.60 in year two, €1,692.31 in year three, and €2,197.40 in year four. On top of that, apprentices can earn bonuses of up to €1,700.

The next start is September. There is no deadline, but applying in the winter before the start gives the best chances. Your child can apply before finishing the ninth year of school.

After a first look at the application, we invite your child to Jenbach for half a day: a short entrance test (Lehrlingscheck) and a relaxed conversation of about 15 to 30 minutes.

Yes. Your child can ask for a trial day at lehre.jenbach@innio.com.

Nine years of completed compulsory schooling, fluent German, and authorization to work in Austria.

Three to four years, depending on the trade. Most trades take 3.5 years.

The final exam is just the start. Beate began as an apprentice and is VP Manufacturing in Jenbach today, and Christoph went from mechatronics apprentice to Lead Expert in assembly.

Yes. In Hall in Tirol, 30 km from Jenbach, we train Metal Technicians specializing in machining technology. The apprenticeship takes 3.5 years, and pay, start, application, and selection are the same as in Jenbach. In Waukesha, Wisconsin, we train Mechatronics Technicians together with Waukesha County Technical College; there, your child needs a high school diploma or GED, or they must complete their high school education by the graduation deadline specified in the current posting.

Your child applies online through the apprenticeship position for the chosen trade. After a first look, we invite your child to Jenbach for half a day. One tip: your child should check the inbox used for the application regularly.
